Salaamun 'Alaykum,

Commemorating Yaum e Gham / 8th Shawwal - September 7, 2011

History has not seen a more perverse ideology and man-made set of beliefs than that of the Wahhabi persuasion. Founded over 200 years ago, their physical reign over the nation of Islam’s sacred sites in Mecca and Medina and of present, over the hearts and minds of millions of Muslims, has proved to be one of extremism and tyranny for those who do not subscribe to their man-made religion on many fronts.

For the followers of the Prophet Muhammad and his Ahlul Bait (peace be upon them all) – the true followers of Islam – this cancer within the Islamic community perpetrated one of the sickest crimes in the year 1925 with the destruction of the graveyard of Al-Baqi in Medina, in present day Saudi Arabia.

This graveyard, which houses the graves of the wives of the Prophet, many of his companions, his infant son Ibrahim and most importantly, four of the Divinely appointed leaders of the community was desecrated and levelled to the ground on the 8th of Shawwal in the year 1345 AH (April 21, 1925)

Historians narrate that over seven thousand companions of the Prophet, in addition to Imam Hasan bin Ali, Imam Ali bin Husain, Imam Muhammad bin Ali, and Imam Ja'far bin Muhammad (peace be upon all of them) are also buried in this graveyard which the Prophet himself would visit on a regular basis!

The followers of the Wahhabi sect continued their rampage in Jannatul Mu`alla in Mecca in which Hazrat Abu Talib, Khadijah binte Khuwaylid (peace be upon them both) and other noble personalities are buried! They were successful in destroying the graves and their markers, and this would have continued in Madina at the grave of the Prophet had it not been for the strong opposition by the Muslim world (and perhaps due to those who are buried beside the Prophet).

May Allah hasten the return of our Awaited Imam to fill the Earth with justice and to restore the honour and glory which these historical sites once enjoyed.

Significance of Rajab

Rajab is one of the four most sacred months of Islamic Calendar. Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) has said that whoever fasts one day in Rajab will earn the pleasure of Allah (S.W.T.).

Imam Ali (A.S.) has said that whoever fasts on the first day, middle or last day of Rajab then his or her sins will be forgiven by Allah (S.W.T.).

Imam Jafer Sadiq (A.S.) has said that whoever fasts 3 days in Rajab he/she will be rewarded for one year of fasts for each day and whoever fasts for 8 days in Rajab will have an easy day of judgment and whoever fasts for the entire month of Rajab then Allah (S.W.T.) will earn the everlasting pleasure of Allah (S.W.T.).

Salamun Alaykum (Peace Be Upon You),

As the people's revolution unfolds in Bahrain, the Bahraini government has called on its despotic partners in the Middle East to crush the uprising. Over 1000 Saudi and 500 Emirati (UAE) troops crossed into Bahrain to join Bahraini government forces in attacking the unarmed, peaceful protesters. Hundreds of innocent men, women, and children have been wounded or killed by government forces, and the massacre does not seem likely to subsist.

As people of conscience (irrespective of our faiths), it is incumbent upon us to do whatever is in our ability to raise awareness of this tragedy and help the oppressed. Below are a few suggestions on how we can help the people in Bahrain:

1. Keep Appraised of What Is Happening and Inform Others
2. Call the Bahraini, Saudi, and Emirati Embassies and voice your condemnation of their violent repression of peaceful protesters
3. Contact Your Elected Representatives and ask for the House of Commons in Ottawa to condemn the massacre.
4. Organize and/or Participate Public Demonstration to inform others about the tragedy
5. Write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper, and express your condemnation of the brutality.

Below are details on these can be achieved:

1. Keep Appraised of What Is Happening and Inform Others:

Most Western and even Middle Eastern news sources have unfortunately proven themselves to be disappointingly biased and/or lacking in coverage of the situation. PressTV ( http://tinyurl.com/4ddulj ) and ABNA ( http://tinyurl.com/6e4jja4 ) are routinely being updated with the reality on the ground. You can follow these sources closely while tracking news being covered by other mainstream media sources that have increasingly started paying attention. As new events unfold, post them on your Facebook wall, Tweet about them, and share them with acquaintances, your community, and other relevant email lists to raise awareness.

2. Call the Bahraini, Saudi, and Emirati Embassies and voice your condemnation of this brutal behavior. The Bahraini Embassy can be reached at 1-202-342-1111, the Saudi Embassy at 613-237-4100/ 01 / 02, and the Emirati Embassy at +1-613-565-7272. (Make sure to call during working hours.) Speak to the operator and ask for the Ambassador's office. Be polite but firm, and speak your mind about the injustices happening in Bahrain. If necessary, leave a voicemail.

3. Contact Your Elected Representatives and ask for the House of Commons in Ottawa to condemn the massacre. You can find the contact information for Members of Parliament at http://tinyurl.com/24ofr3t . Call and ask to speak to the Member of Parliament’s (MP’s) office, and let them know that as their constituent, you expect them to condemn this behavior. Tell them that this issue is very close to your heart, and if they fail to speak up, they should not count on your vote during the forthcoming elections.

Email the MP's office as well. A sample email message is as follows:

Dear Hon. [ Name of MP],

I am writing to express my strong condemnation of the current massacre being perpetrated against the Bahraini people by Bahraini and Saudi armed forces. As your constituent, I urge you to introduce and/or support a legislation in the House of Commons which condemns this barbaric behavior by immediately suspending the supply of weapons, munitions and related equipment as well as technologies made in Canada and/or by Canadian companies that could be used to commit further human rights violations by the UAE, Saudi Arabia & Bahrain.

On Wednesday 16th March 2011, the Salmaniyah Hospital was seized by Bahraini security forces who raided the complex in search of wounded protesters, beating and threatening doctors and hospital staff, and finally encircled the hospital with tanks and military personnel and have denied access to and exit from the hospital.

The recent military seizure of the Salmaniyah Hospital in Manama is in clear violation of Protocol II, Articles 9, 10, 11, and 13 of the Geneva Convention. The Canadian government should highlight this breach of international law, and be prepared to apply political, diplomatic and legal sanctions against the Bahraini regime if necessary.

Furthermore, I am confident that you will make it clear that repression and state-sanctioned murder in Bahrain will not go unnoticed and urge you to call for an urgent withdrawal of Saudi Arabia and UAE troops from Bahrain, and that the Bahraini government withdraws all local and foreign troops respects its people's rights to peacefully assemble and protest, and allows for free and fair elections in the country.

Your prompt action and response with regards to this urgent issue will be highly appreciated.

4. Organize and Participate Public Demonstration to inform others about the tragedy: Most Western news sources have completely ignored or underplayed the severity of the situation, and it is our obligation to inform the masses about the Bahraini people's plight. You don't need more than a few hours to plan a demonstration. Even a small group of five people holding signs at a busy intersection for an hour can potentially inform thousands of people about the massacre. Urge onlookers to contact their elected representatives asking them to condemn this aggression.

5. Write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper, and express your condemnation of the brutality. Mention exact numbers and figures. If your newspaper has not given adequate coverage to the situation in Bahrain, state your disappointment and disapproval. 9th Rabi-al-Awwal - Eid-e-Zahra(s.a.). Also known as Eid-e-Shuja.

This is the day of Eid for Momineen and Mominaat and marks the end of the mourning period after the events of Karbala. According to Ulema, this is the day when the key murderers of Imam Hussain (a.s.), Umar ibn-e-Saad(L.A.) and Ubaidullah ibn-e-Ziyad were killed and sent to the Hell. When their heads were presented to Imam Zain-ul-Abideen(a.s.) by the forces of Hazrat Mokhtar-e-Thaqafi (a.r.), Imam(a.s.) prostrated and thanked Allah(swt) that HE had granted him long enough life that he could see the heads of the killers of Imam Hussain(a.s.).

This was the first time since the events of Karbala that the people saw smile on the face of Imam Zain-al-Abideen(a.s.). Therefore, the faithfuls of Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) and his Ahl-e-Bait(a.s.) should celebrate this day as an Eid day. Allah(swt) has reserved great reward for anyone who declares and celebrates this day as Eid day.

4th Rabi-al-Awwal – According to some traditions, it is the death anniversary of Hazrat Bibi Fatima Masuma-e-Qom(a.s.) – daughter of Imam Moosa-e-Kazim(a.s.) and sister of Imam Ali Riza(a.s.). Another date mentioned of her death is that of 10th Rabi-us-Sani.

Her position among Ahl-e-Bait (A.S.)

Among the children of the seventh Imam(a.s.), Hazrat Fatimah Masuma bint Musa ibn Jafar(a.s.) has a special position after Imam Ali Riza (a.s). Due to her faith, virtuousness and training under the guardianship of Imamate she reached such a position that the Masoom (Imam) gave her the title of Masuma (infallible), and because of her worship and abstemiousness she acquired the status of intercession. This is why the most learned scholars, the greatest Maraje', and the real Gnostics are humbly standing at her holy shrine saying:

O Fatimah(a.s.) intercede for us in heaven since you have reached a dignified status from a high rank with Allah(swt)

There is a tradition that states that out of the eight gates of heaven, one will open towards Qom and due to her intercession all Shias will go to heaven.

In tradition it is excessively mentioned that whoever visits (does ziyarat of) Hazrat Masuma (a.s.), heaven is incumbent upon that person and this position is obtained by her after the fourteen Masoomeen(a.s.).

Imam Riza(a.s.) has said:

Whoever visits her (performs her ziyarat) acknowledging her right, is entitled to heaven.

In Kamil-al-ziyarah it is quoted from Imam Riza (a.s)

Whoever does the ziyarat of Masuma in Qom it is as though he/she has done my ziyarat

Haram of Ahl-e-Bait(A.S.)

Imam Jafer Sadiq (a.s) says: Haram of Allah(swt) – Mecca, Haram of Rasool(sawaw) – Madina, Haram of Imam Ali(a.s.) – Kufa, and the Haram of Ahlul bait(a.s.) is Qom.

Please remember to recite special prayers and offer nazrana on this occassion to renew your allegiance to Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) and his Ahl-e-bait(a.s.).
